We use cookies on our website in order to distinguish you from other users of our website.  This helps us to provide you with a better experience when you browse our website, allows us to improve our site, resolves errors and also helps us to operate our online booking system.

It is important to note that you can manage cookie settings through your web browser and more information about how to do this, is provided below.

Types of Cookies

There are different types of cookies which broadly fall into the following categories.

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include for example, cookies that enable you to reserve a vehicle using our online booking system, make payments and navigate through the pages of our website. The website would not function correctly without these cookies and they can usually only be disabled by changes to your browser preferences.

  • Analytical and performance cookies. These allow us understand how our website is used. For example, they allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors, assess length of visit, how many pages are viewed, geographical location of visitors to our site, browser type and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

  • Functionality cookies. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you and remember your preferences.

  • Targeting cookies. These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We use this information to make our website and the information (which may include marketing information) displayed on it more relevant to your interests.

From time to time, we might also test new website features and make changes to our website.   In doing so, we may use cookies to test these new features, make sure that the website still functions while we do so and to understand which optimisations are best for our users and our site.

How Long Cookies Last

Temporary or “session” cookies remain for your current browsing session only.  This means that the session cookie will be automatically deleted when you leave our website.   These types of cookies can include those which allow information to remain as you move around the website so that you don’t have to input the same data for example, during the same browsing session.

Persistent cookies are those which remain for a longer period and remain on your device once you have left our website.  They help us to recognise users returning to our website and are used for example, to tailor the content you might be presented with on a return visit such as the detail of a vehicle which you are interested in reserving.

Information is provided in the table above about the duration of the cookies we use on the Peter Roberts website and otherwise, persistent cookies expire in any event after two years.  Essential cookies may remain for longer.

Third Parties

We do not share the information collected by the cookies we use, with any third parties. However, some of the cookies which we use do come from third parties as listed in the above table.

Please note that from time to time, we may provide links to other websites which might use cookies, and we do not have any control over those.  You should always check the cookie policies on other websites that you might visit.   Third parties might use for example, advertising networks or external services such as web traffic analysis and are often analytical cookies or targeting cookies.
